In a horrific road accident that occurred on late Tuesday evening in Mumbai, a 78-year-old man rammed his speeding car into four teenagers. Three of them are critically injured and have been admitted to the ICU of a government-run hospital while the fourth one is out of danger.
The accident took place outside Mumbai’s CSMT train station when a speeding car driven by a senior citizen rammed into the teenagers, a police official said. The accused has been detained by the police.
According to the Azad Maidan police station official, car driver Dilip Chatwani (78) lost control over the wheels at around 7 pm on Tuesday and rammed the vehicle into four youngsters, aged between 17 and 18 years, after hitting a school bus.
As per the police, Chatwani was driving back home to Mahim from south Mumbai, while the victims were moving towards the railway station at the time of the accident.
“Three of the youths, all residents of Sewri, were badly injured and recuperating in the ICU, while the fourth one was stated to be out of danger,” said the official.
The elderly car driver, who escaped unhurt in the crash, was detained and his vehicle has been seized, he said, adding further investigation was underway.
This comes less than a week after one person was killed after a 17-year-old boy allegedly rammed a car into the footpath in Mumbai’s Malad West area. The police booked the accused and his friend who allegedly lent him the vehicle despite knowing that he did not possess a driver’s licence.
The minor was identified as Mohammed Hamid Banikar and his friend Sameer Shaikh.
