Mumbai University (MU) will shortly introduce a certificate course in ‘temple management’ in partnership with the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. The Centre for Hindu Studies and the Department of Sanskrit at the university have signed an MoU with the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. The emphasis of the certificate course will be on a thorough study of Hindu philosophy. The Times of India (TOI) reports. Both departments will be designing curricula working together with the Oxford Centre for Certificate and Diploma Courses in online as well as offline models.

Interested applicants will benefit from a unique management course that draws inspiration from real-life examples since the nation is home to numerous important temples. In the future, the institution may expand it to a postgraduate diploma or an MBA degree based on student desire and job prospects.

The six-month certificate programme will begin in accordance with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on the inclusion of the Indian knowledge system (IKS) in the curricula of institutions of higher learning. The course will be created with assistance from the university’s two management schools, the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and the Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute, by looking for practical application of management principles in well-known temples like ISKCON, Shegaon’s Gajanan Maharaj Temple, and Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust.

“Some are managing electricity by making use of solar-operated systems, some are making use of flowers offered by devotees to make incense sticks, which is also creating employment opportunities, some have started using technology to manage queues , there are books written on these practices, which can be used as references,” the university administration was quoted by TOI. Ravikant Sangurde and Madhavi Narsale have been assigned as the university’s co-ordinators for this programme

The Indian Knowledge System is an innovation unit within the Ministry of Education (MoE) based at AICTE. In order to encourage multidisciplinary study on all facets of IKS, it was established in October of 2020. In addition to traditional knowledge in the fields of literature, art, and agriculture, basic sciences, engineering, and technology, among many other areas, it actively seeks to disseminate India’s rich heritage.
