Signs A Person Did Not Receive Emotional Care During Childhood
According to the post, one can “feel frustrated with yourself for needing support, think your own needs are not as important as others, and/or have a hard time identifying and expressing your feelings.”

Our childhood is the foundation of what shape our adult life will take. The amount and quality of nourishment and care provided to children ensure that they grow up to be an efficiently-functioning adult, both physically and mentally. But not everyone gets the type of care that they need.

Many caregivers are quite cognizant of how they are raising their offspring but fail to realise that every area needs equal attention. In such cases, while the child is being adequately fed and nurtured, their emotional needs are seldom paid heed to. In such cases, signs of a void incurred during childhood surface during adulthood.

An Instagram post throws light on these signs and elaborates on how unattended emotional needs can lead to distress during adulthood. Shared by a therapist named Emily Sanders, the post lists eight things that one gets to notice if someone’s emotional needs were not cared for as a child.

Sharing the post, Sanders, in the caption, wrote, “Many caregivers do a decent job at caring and providing for their child’s physical needs like putting a band-aid on a scrape or making a sandwich. But emotional needs being met are very important, and contribute to our overall development and sense of well-being.”

According to the post, one can “feel frustrated with yourself for needing support, think your own needs are not as important as others, and/or have a hard time identifying and expressing your feelings.” The post added that a person tends to doubt their own sensitivity during tough times and struggle accessing their true feelings.

Sanders further explained that people devoid of emotional care during their childhood often wonder if they are asking for too much or becoming too needy. They are seldom kind to themselves and keep their priorities side-lined. Sanders, in the caption, suggests therapy if one is going through such a phase.
