SRK wanted to quit the film because of his injury but Nikkhil Advani decided to delay the film instead.

Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan’s Kal Ho Na Ho is one of the most loved and talked about films of their careers. The film showcases a love triangle among three friends, built on sacrifice and respect for each other’s feelings. As the film is about to clock 20 years soon, director Nikkhil Advani revealed some unknown insights about the film.

SRK Wanted To Quit

Nikkhil, who made his directorial debut with the film, recently spoke to Rajshri Unplugged and said, “Shah Rukh fell ill with his back after four days of shooting, and he said, ‘Take me out of the film’. We said no and we decided to delay it. We delayed the film by six months.”

Nikkhil Felt The Pressure

“There was pressure because ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ had done so well. If the next film from Dharma Productions under Karan did not do well, then all the blame would have been on the fact that the 100% track record was spoiled by Nikkhil Advani. So the pressure was immense,” he said.

Challenges Of Filming In New York

Speaking about the challenges he faced while filming in New York, the director said, “Nobody had ever shot in New York before. People had gone to London, people had gone to Switzerland, people had gone to Europe. To shoot in New York, which has its own problems with unions and… It’s an expensive location to shoot for a first-time filmmaker or a debut filmmaker. But Yash Johar was a master at taking any production challenge up. So it was not a very easy film.”

Kal Ho Naa Ho was released on November 28, 2003. The film was appreciated both critically and commercially and became the highest-grossing film of that year, minting nearly Rs. 81.95 crore at the global box office.

Originally, Kareena Kapoor was supposed to play Naina in the film. However, when she rejected it, Preity Zinta was roped in for the iconic role.
