When Akshay Kumar Spoke About Martial Arts Giving Him 'An Edge Over Other Actors': 'I'm Lucky To Have...'
Akshay Kumar said that he came to Mumbai to teach martial arts and soon found himself in the fashion world.

Akshay Kumar has had an illustrious career in Bollywood so far. From romantic films to mega-hit comedy franchises and from action-packed blockbusters to dramatic, patriotic films, the actor is a champion of his craft. However, before becoming an actor, Akshay was a chef abroad who came to Mumbai to teach martial arts. In an old interview, the actor talks about his entry into the film industry and what gives him an edge over other actors.

An old clip from the 90s has now resurfaced on Reddit in which a reporter asks Akshay about how he ventured into Hindi films. Akshay said, “Well, it’s a very long story actually. I came to Bombay to teach martial arts and I was teaching and suddenly I found myself in the fashion world. I was doing fashion shows and modelling and very soon, I came into films. The rest is history.”

The reporter then asked Akshay if he thought he had an edge over other actors because he knew martial arts. Akshay replied, “Well, this is one of my positive points. Obviously, I must be having some negative points also. Many other people must be having more positive and negative points. So, basically, altogether I’m just lucky enough to come in this line and survive here for the last nine years. I hope to survive here more and more. I hope to work in this line till they have to shoot me down.”

One person commented, “Maybe this is a rehearsed interview but he sounds far more eloquent than what he sounds now.” Others also took to the comments section to express their views on Akshay’s style in the 90s. One person wrote, “He looks hot here.” Another added, “The OG beard style in 90’s.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay will next be seen in the film Mission Raniganj. The film revolves around the true story of Jaswant Singh Gill, a top engineer in a mine, who saved more than 60 lives in 1989. Parineeti Chopra will essay the role of his wife. The movie, directed by Suresh Desai, is slated to hit the theatres on October 5 this year.
