The trailer for the musical comedy Wish has been released and depicts a magical tale about a girl who wishes upon a star to preserve her town.

The much-awaited trailer for Disney’s upcoming animated musical comedy, Wish is finally out. Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the film is set to open in theatres on November 22. The trailer was shared by Walt Disney Animation Studios. It introduced the members of the film’s voiceover cast, including Ariana DeBose as the lead Asha, Chris Pine as King Magnifico, Alan Tudyk as Asha’s pet Valentino, and Angelique Cabral as Queen Amaya, among others.

The trailer transports viewers to the mystical country of Rosas, where the protagonist, Asha lives with her family. She joins as an apprentice under the ruler of the kingdom, King Magnifico, who has the power to fulfil his citizens’ desires. As Asha visits him, she discovers that he only grants a few wishes that he deems beneficial to his city. Unhappy with the ruler’s decision, Asha makes a wish upon a star, causing it to fall from the sky and enrage Magnifico. The trailer focuses on how Asha, along with the cosmic energy, and her friends decide to face the king to preserve the town. The trailer also teases that the movie will have a good balance of humour in the form of Asha’s antics, her talking pet, a mischievous star, and much more.

Wish is produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones. Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore are the writers of this magical film. The musical has songs composed by award-winning songwriters Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice. Further, it features a single composed by Dave Metzger, who has done exceptional work in Disney’s Frozen and Moana.

A report by Variety quoted the writer Jennifer Lee as saying, “Asha is the ultimate ordinary hero. Asha is at that precipice in life where she is an idealist, open, accepting and having fun. Disney’s newest heroine sees the world reveal its flaws as she goes on her journey. She starts to feel that fire that a lot of people feel at that age of ‘this isn’t right, what am I going to do?’ We watch her become a full participant in the world and see the impact you can have." The writer believes that Asha’s life will be relatable to the broader section of the audience. She added that the protagonist’s warm and honest nature will lift people’s spirits.

Apart from the lead artists, the voiceovers for other characters in the film are done by Victor Garber. Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén and Ramy Youssef.
