Allan Donald Set to Quit as Bangladesh Pace Bowling Coach: Report
Allan Donald linked up with Bangladesh in March 2022 for the T20 World Cup before his contract was extended.

Allan Donald will reportedly not be extending his contract with the Bangladesh cricket team in his role as their pace bowling coach once their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign ends. Bangladesh are out of the world cup semifinals race and play Australia in their final league match on Saturday.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Donald informed the team about his decision to step down during a meeting.

“Yes, he ( Donald) informed us that he will not carry on with us after this World Cup during the team meeting,” the publication quoted a top Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official as saying.

Donald was roped in by BCB last year in March for the T20 World Cup in Australia. After impressing in the role, his contract was extended till the ODI World Cup in India.

The development comes after BCB reportedly sought an explanation from Donald following his comments on Angelo Mathews’ timed out dismissal despite being part of the Bangladesh’s coaching staff.

The legendary pacer criticised the incident, labelling it as disappointing.

“He could have given his personal views at a later time,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by ESPNcricino. “He is part of the team management so when the team takes a decision, speaking about it publicly is a breach of the code of conduct. He could have spoken about it within the team or he could have spoken directly to the player. He could have informed the BCB, but not in public.”

Donald seemed unflustered though.

“That’s all ok with me if they (BCB) seek an explanation. As far as I am concerned the explanation was in the news today!,” Donald was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Bangladesh have had a poor world cup campaign winning just two of their eight matches. They started the competition with an impressive win over Afghanistan before crashing to six defeats in a row to bow out of semis race.
