Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri among others met Eric Garcetti and regaled him with stories from India's 1983 world cup title run.

We have reached the business end of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with India and Australia the only two teams left to battle for the ultimate glory. The title clash will be held in two days’ time at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma and his men have started gearing up for what will be one of the biggest matches of their lives. The hosts have been in stunning form so far and are unbeaten in 10 matches en route to the final.

Meanwhile, a few members of India’s first ever ODI World Cup triumph in 1983 met with US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti.

Kapil Dev, the captain of that legendary winning team, alongside Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Roger Binny, Kirti Azad and Mohinder Amarnath regaled Garcetti with their stories from that triumph.

In a clip shared by Garcetti, the India cricket legends can be seen signing a bat, playing a game of cricket and reaching the American the intricacies of bowling.

“Met the OGs of cricket – ’83 legends @therealkapildev, Sunil Gavaskar, @iRogerBinny, @JimmyAmarnath, @KirtiAzaad, and @RaviShastriOfc! They bowled me over with their stories from India’s first cricket World Cup victory!” Garcetti posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He also sent his wishes for the current Indian team ahead of the final.

“Rooting for #TeamIndia for the World Cup final on Sunday. #MenInBlue, you’re on fire, let’s bring that trophy home once more! @BCCI” he added.

This is the fourth time that an Indian men’s cricket team has made it to the final of an ODI World Cup.

In 1983, India defeated the then two-time defending champions West Indies to win their first ever world title. Under Sourav Ganguly, India finished as the runners-up in 2003 before MS Dhoni oversaw their title triumph in 2011.

Rohit is now hoping to join the list of India’s world cup winning captains.
