Disappointed And Disheartened That India Played So Well Yet Couldn't Win World Cup: Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev suggested that the Australian team played better in the final and everyone should respect that while he was disheartened that India failed to win the trophy.

Legendary captain Kapil Dev expressed his disappointment over Rohit Sharma and Co’s heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final against Australia last week. Kapil, who was the first India captain to win the World Cup way back in 1983, was impressed with the way the Men in Blue throughout the tournament but the loss in the final disheartened him.

India played dominant cricket in their journey to the final but crumbled under pressure in the all-important match against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium. Pat Cummins and Co. outclassed the hosts in all three departments and lifted their sixth World Cup trophy.

The defeat last Sunday broke the Indian cricket team and its fans’ hearts as they entered the final as the favourites but the defeat extended their ICC title drought.

Kapil, who is very vocal about his views and opinions, talked about the importance of moving on in life after India’s heartbreaking loss.

“Remember that you have to move on in life. Another thing I’ve learnt over a period of time is to never talk about your time. We have moved on. We are not good enough. The young people are much better than us. The only thing we have – we have experience to guide them in the right direction. They are far better, but we can guide them better, that’s all,” Kapil was quoted as saying by Sportstar during a book launch.

Meanwhile, Kapil suggested that the Australian team played better in the final and everyone should respect that while he was disheartened that India failed to win the trophy.

“Today’s cricketers, sorry they couldn’t win the World Cup, but they played well. I know in our mind, winning is everything. But the way of play is more important. Other people had also come here to play. Other people played better (on the) last day. We should respect that. I’m disappointed and disheartened that they played so well and yet they couldn’t win the trophy. But (it) doesn’t matter. Let’s hope what we didn’t understand this time, we’ll learn and do it better. That’s the way we are,” said the former India captain.
