While some leaders said they did not “rely” on exit polls, some expressed confidence over the “victory” of their party.

Let us look at some reactions to the exit polls of five states –

Initial projections indicate that BJP is leading in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, while the Congress might remain in power in Chhattisgarh. Projections also suggest that Congress might be dethroning BRS in Telangana.

The counting of votes for all five states will take place on December 3.

Madhya Pradesh Exit Poll Reactions

BJP leader Uma Bharti said she doesn’t “rely” on exit polls. “They predict that a party will win between 112 and 130 seats (out of 230 seats in MP). Now, if that party gets 112 seats and loses elections, the exit pollsters claim they have proved right. But if that party gets 120 seats and wins, the exit polls claim their prediction was right,” she said.

“So exit polls are two sides of the same coin. I do not rely on them,” she added.

“I wish my party would form the government in Madhya Pradesh. I respect MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan a lot,” Bharti further told reporters.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, “Exit poll results are very diverse. We cannot say anything about it. I can assure you that the Congress will get more than 130 seats in Madhya Pradesh…People want transformation…People are fed up with CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chhattisgarh Exit Poll Reactions

Chhattisgarh Congress president Deepak Baij expressed confidence that his party will get around “80% seats” in Telangana.

“Exit polls of other states are good. The atmosphere in Madhya Pradesh & Telangana is also good. We will get around 80 per cent seats in Telangana. Congress will form government in four states,” he said.

BJP senior leader Saroj Pandey claimed exit polls prove that “people have shown their trust in PM Modi”.

“BJP has made a lot of progress. We will be forming government in the states where we already have our government and also in those states where we do not have our government…People have shown their trust in PM Modi,” Pandey said.

Former Chhattisgarh CM and BJP leader Raman Singh said, “It is clear from the exit poll that BJP has taken a huge jump. From 15 seats, we have jumped to 48 seats. I believe that this will surely cross 48 seats and we will get around 55-56 seats and BJP will form govt with a clear majority…Those who are scared are talking about Operation Lotus.

Chhattisgarh CM and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel stated, “We had set a target of getting 75 seats and we will remain close to that figure.

Telangana Exit Poll Reactions

Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy termed the results of exit polls as the “victory of the people of Telangana”.

“This election was not Congress vs BRS. 4 crore people were against BRS. This is the victory of the people of Telangana…We will get the approval of the six guarantees and will make it an act in the first cabinet itself Congress is going to get landslide victory this time and the same thing is reflected in the exit polls. We are going to get over 80 seats…There is a screening committee, a selection committee and then the CWC has to take a call (for CM). In Congress, there is a process for everything. Being the PCC president, I will have to obey every order from the high command,” he said.

Robert Vadra stressed that he doesn’t “believe in exit polls too much”.

“I believe in the real result, which is on Dec 3…I’ve met a lot of people in the last few months, people want a change. People are upset, especially in Madhya Pradesh. They were upset about how the BJP toppled the ruling government…Everybody has a very fluctuating, very different kind of mandate or very different kind of assessment…We will see on Dec 3. I think we should have very good results for the Congress,” Vadra said.
