'Inspired' by Israel-Hamas Conflict, LeT And JeM Have Ramped Up Activities at LoC: Sources | Exclusive
According to intelligence agencies, to prove themselves equal to Hamas, Hezbollah, Tehrik-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) or Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) need to show major action at the Line of Control (LoC)

Pakistan-backed terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed have been acting aggressively at the borders with India since the Israel-Hamas conflict in West Asia kicked off, security officials told CNN-News18 on Tuesday. Historically, the LeT and Jaish have not been seen as forces that will fight in association with a third country, said the sources. But to register their existence, they need to be active at the Line of Control (LoC), the sources added.

Due to the sudden refugee crisis and attacks by Tehrik-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) or Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the LeT and JeM have been losing their domestic grounds and funds.

According to intelligence agencies, to prove themselves equal to Hamas, Hezbollah, TTP, or TJP, they need to show major action at the LoC.

“Drone activities have increased majorly in the last month and they are doing almost two to three sorties in a day. Since we don’t have a foolproof mechanism in place, it’s difficult to catch every drone,” said an official.

One major change is that the Pakistani Rangers are coming very close to the International Border and sending drones towards Amritsar, said the sources.

“Because this is done from very close to the IB, they come deep inside the village and weapons and drugs are delivered, an official said. “These drugs are for raising money and the weapons are given for terror activities and to local gangsters also.”

Top intelligence sources said that a major worry for India is that Lashkar and Jaish can replicate Hamas-style attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

There are over 60 foreign terrorists waiting in Kashmir and their locations are unknown, said the sources.

In the last few months, the terrorists at the borders have changed their launching pads in apprehension of a surgical strike like in 2019, they added.

The launching pads have moved to different locations, away from the eyes of Indian agencies, the sources said.
