'Let’s Make it Memorable': Shubman Gill's Message to Fans After Being Named Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill will led Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians.

India batting star Shubman Gill has been named as the new captain of IPL franchise Gujarat Titans for the upcoming season. Gill will takeover the role from allrounder Hardik Pandya who returned to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal ahead of the mini auction.

Gill has thanked the team for their faith in him for handing over the team’s rein.

“I am proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. Let’s make it memorable!” Gill posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Gill, one of the finest batting talents to have emerged from India in recent times, also has a message for the GT fans.

“To all the fans… #AavaDe (Bring it on)!” the 24-year-old added.

A day after the retention deadline, Mumbai Indians announced Pandya has re-joined them after spending two seasons with GT during which he guided them to a famous title win in their debut season in 2022.

In his second season in charge, Pandya took them to the final as well where they lost to Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling finale.

The 30-year-old Pandya began his IPL career with MI when he was picked by the franchise at his base price of 10 lakh in 2015.

From there, he went on to become one of the finest allrounders in white-ball cricket before proving his leadership credentials as well with top-of-the-table finishes in successive IPL seasons during his time with GT.

Gill is having a year to remember.

Earlier this year, he became the youngest batter in ODI history to register a double-century and is currently the leading run-getter in the format this calendar year.

He also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 which is given to the highest run-getter of a season.

The youngster was part of Indian teams that made it to the finals of World Test Championship and ODI World Cup.

“I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team,” Gill said in a statement. “We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket.”
