Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have finalised their seat negotiation talks for Delhi ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls. According to sources, AAP will contest four seats, while Congress will fight over three seats in the national capital. The two alliance partners are likely to make the decision public soon.
During the AAP-Congress seat-sharing discussion, the grand old party likely to contest from Chandini Chowk, East Delhi and North Delhi, while AAP will field its candidate from South, Northwest, New Delhi and West Delhi, sources informed.
Congress is also planning to field at least one Dalit face in the national capital. A general category face and a woman candidate will also be fielded by the party.
In addition to this, it has also been learnt that Congress is likely to give AAP one seat in Haryana and two seats in Gujarat. Meanwhile, AAP will give up its south Goa constituency for the Congress. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party has a sitting MP in Goa.
It is important to note that the Delhi deal with AAP was closed after the Congress party sealed its negotiations with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, February 21.
UP Seat-Sharing Pact Done
Amid the ongoing speculations regarding the rift in the INDIA bloc alliance ahead of the 2024 polls, the Congress finalised its pact will the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and agreed to contest 17 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the forthcoming elections. Notably, the Samajwadi Party will contest from the remaining 63 seats in the state.
The pact marked the first major seat-sharing deal announced by the opposition alliance, which was formed to oust the ruling BJP-led central government in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The Samajwadi Party has so far announced three lists for the Lok Sabha polls and has named a total of 32 candidates — including don-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s brother Afzal Ansari and Akhilesh Yadav’s uncle Shivpal Yadav.
