Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood will contest the Punjab assembly elections, the Bollywood actor declared on Sunday. However, there was no announcement on the party she would be joining.
“Malvika is ready. Her commitment to serve people is unparalleled,” Sood said at a press conference at his home in Moga. He explained that it is a big decision of life when it comes to joining a political party, “it is more about ideologies not casual meetings.”
When asked about the party Malvika would be joining, the Bollywood actor said, “We will reveal at right time about the party.”
Sood’s sister recently met with chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and is “open to meeting other political leaders, including AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.”
In the past, the actor — who is known for his work during the Covid crisis — had met Kejriwal, who declared him brand ambassador for a “Desh ka Mentors” programme for school students.
The meeting also led to buzz about the actor’s political debut ahead of the Punjab polls but Sood had then clarified that no politics was discussed.
Sood’s work during the Covid-19 crisis, when he arranged buses, trains and even flights to take hundreds of migrants stranded due to the lockdown to their home state, won him praise from all quarters. During the second wave earlier this year, he organised oxygen for Covid patients.
In September, the actor was under the Income Tax department scanner and at least six properties in Mumbai and Lucknow, all linked to the Bollywood actor, were surveyed.
The visit of the I-T officials, which was not termed as raid, was in connection with an alleged tax evasion probe, according to PTI.
Sood had a run-in with the law earlier this year when the BMC had filed a complaint against him accusing him of converting a six-storey residential building in Juhu into a hotel without the required permissions. Sonu Sood had filed a case against the BMC notice over the alleged illegal construction. When the Bombay High Court dismissed Sonu Sood’s appeal, he had moved the Supreme Court.
