Alka Lamba Denies Reports of Resignation, Sisodia Confirms it Amid Row Over Rajiv Gandhi Resolution
Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba had said that she was opposed to party’s demand to withdraw Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna and had even staged a walk out when the resolution was moved.

New Delhi: Amid rumours of AAP MLA Alka Lamba’s resignation, Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has said that no resignation was sought from anyone.

The Delhi government found itself at the centre of a controversy when a resolution demanding that the late Rajiv Gandhi be stripped off his Bharat Ratna made its way to the Assembly. The resolution was moved by Tilok Nagar legislator Jarnail Singh, demanding justice for 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims.

However, Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba had said that she was opposed to party’s demand to withdraw Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna and had even staged a walk out when the resolution was moved.

Amid reports of her resignation doing the rounds, she said: “I am not resigning.”

Later, Sisodia clarified that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s name was added at the last moment by a legislator and was not part of the original resolution. He too rubbished reports of Lamba resignation.

“No resignation has been sought and from no one, all these are rumours,” said Sisodia.

It was AAP’s Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti who referred to Rajiv Gandhi in his speech and demanded that the Bharat Ratna be withdrawn. Bharti later took to Twitter and confessed to have added the controversial line to the resolution and passed it on to Jarnail Singh who then read it out.
