New Delhi: The Congress is likely to seal an alliance with the Rashtirya Janata Dal (RJD) today, party sources have said. The details are not yet clear, but it comes on a day when the Congress election committee met at Sonia Gandhi's residence today.
The decision also comes a day after Congress sources indicated that talks with the Janata Dal United (JDU) - RJD's rival - were still on and that the party was in no mood to give up the Madhubani and Motihari seats demanded by Lalu Prasad.
Meanwhile, the BJP is trying to woo the JDU in its own way. On Monday, BJP leader Arun Jaitley backed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's demand for a special category status for the state.
"Several states in the east have not economically progressed in comparison to the others. Such states aspire to get a special category status which will ensure higher central revenues and grants," Jaitley wrote in his blog.
