Amit Shah says NDA will win 300 seats, Modi will be PM, targets EC
Amit Shah also alleged a Congress-BSP-SP collusion in UP, saying that the fight had boiled down to Narendra Modi vs the rest in the state.

Varanasi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday sounded confident that the party-led NDA will win the Lok Sabha elections with a clear majority and get 300 seats in Parliament. BJP's Uttar Pradesh campaign in-charge Amit Shah not only claimed that the NDA was headed towards a massive victory but in keeping with his party's line, also targeted the Election Commission (EC).

"The NDA will get more than 300 seats in these elections. We will get a clear majority and our prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be the Prime Minister," Amit Shah said.

He also took on the Congress, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP), alleging that there was a collusion between the three parties in Uttar Pradesh.

"The SP and the Congress have an understanding. The SP did not field any candidate in Rae Bareli and Amethi. (BSP chief) Mayawati supports the Congress as and when she pleases. These elections are now all about Modi vs the rest," Shah said at a press conference in Varanasi.

Modi is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi and had held a huge roadshow there on Thursday in a show of strength after one of his rallies in the city was cancelled by the district administration. The EC did not take kindly to defiance of its orders and asked the BJP to act more "mature".

Shah, however, again attacked the poll panel, saying it was running away from its responsibilites.

"We feel that the EC is running away from its responsibilities. It said it will probe the District Magistrate's role (in cancelling the Modi rally). We had demanded his transfer. If the EC wants to hold free and fair elections, then it has to transfer the Varanasi DM," Shah said.

Shah also demanded deployment of central paramilitary forces in all polling booths in Varanasi on the final phase of elections on Monday. "The EC must deploy paramilitary forces everywhere in Uttar Pradesh. In Varanasi, paramilitary forces should be present at every booth. Only this will ensure free and fair elections," Shah said.
