Anand to get MEA, Commerce Ministry may go to Purandeswari
Andhra Pradesh MP Daggubati Purandeswari currently holds the post of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development.

New Delhi: As the United Progressive Alliance gears up for a massive Cabinet revamp on Sunday, talks are that Minister of State for Mines Dinshaw Patel is likely to be upgraded while Commerce Minister Anand Sharma will move to the Ministry of External Affairs. After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided to revamp his Cabinet, SM Krishna quit as External Affairs Minister on Friday to "give youngsters a chance".

Sharma is Rajya Sabha MP and was is one of the founder members of the Congress Party's student wing the NSUI. Patel represents Kheda constituency of Gujarat. He was chosen by the Congress to contest against Narendra Modi on the Maninagar constituency in the 2007 Gujarat Assembly elections but he lost miserably.

The other name which is making the rounds is that of Andhra Pradesh MP Daggubati Purandeswari. She is likely to replace Anand Sharma as the Commerce Minister. Purandeswari represents the Visakhapatnam constituency of Andhra Pradesh and currently holds the post of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development.

She is the daughter of late former Andhra Pradesh chief minister NT Rama Rao. Purandeswari was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004. Expressing happiness over the development, the Congress leader said, "I would like to thank Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for giving me this opportunity. It's an honor as well as a huge task. I hope I will be able to give my best."

Meanwhile, following Krishna's footsteps, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik have also quit their posts. According to sources, more young faces are likely to replace the old ones in the UPA government. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is also likely to be get a bigger role in the party as the working president or vice president.
