Sushil Kumar Shinde is out of the reckoning for the hot seat.
New Delhi: Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Ashok Chavan, is the new front-runner for the Chief Minister's job, sources tell CNN-IBN. Sushil Kumar Shinde is out of the reckoning for the hot seat.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that the Party High Command is considering Ashok Chavan, son of veteran Congressman S B Chavan, as a replacement for Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Ashok Chavan is the State Industries Minister currently.
With Chavan in the seat, the Congress is hoping to combat NCP leader Sharad Pawars clout in the state.
Chavan has also served in the Home Department. A final decision is expected on Wednesday after meeting with NCP leaders. The NCP will also be meeting to elect the Deputy CM R R Patil's successor.
