New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party seems to be uncertain about its position on the EVM issue. Sources said the issue was a part of the discussions at the emergency meeting held at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday, but it was not the main item on the agenda.
However, Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said the EVM issue is still a priority for AAP. “EVMs were discussed, but it was not the main agenda of the meet. We are looking at two issues. EVM tampering is the first, we lost because this is happening on a national-level. If this is solved, only then will we move to the second issue, which is that we lost because people are upset,” he said.
Sanjay Singh, the party’s election in-charge in Punjab, resigned on Thursday morning, while Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba said she would step down as no party candidate won in wards falling in her constituency.Also Read| Offers to Step Down Pour in, AAP Goes Into Huddle at Kejriwal's Residence
Party leader Ashish Talwar has also offered to step down after the loss in municipal body elections in the national capital.
Cracks have already started appearing in the party with MP Bhagwant Mann criticising the management of elections in Punjab, and Kumar Vishwas indirectly criticising Kejriwal’s defence of partymen under corruption scanner.
Delhi's overwhelming rejection of the AAP came barely two years into its meteoric rise in the 2015 Assembly polls when it had clinched an unprecedented 67 of the 70 seats. AAP's defeat, which came close on the heels of its abysmal performance in the Assembly polls in Goa, where it failed to open account, and poorer than expected show in Punjab, does not portend well for the party which is bracing itself for a bigger battle in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home turf Gujarat.
