Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have chalked out their strategy to reach out to voters in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

While the BJP is depending on ‘chaupal’ sessions in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress has decided to conduct ‘block sammelans’ to highlight 22 failures of the Narendra Modi government.

In a ‘gram chaupal’ meeting attended by regional leaders and local MLAs, BJP state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal asked workers in the Awadh region to ensure revision of the voters’ list in their respective areas.

Addressing the workers, Bansal had said, “We have to take the schemes of the Centre and state government to each and every house and ensure that every eligible person receives the benefits of these schemes. The revision of the voters’ list by the Election Commission from June 1 to August 10 should be taken seriously by BJP workers too.”

According to BJP sources, the saffron party has directed its workers to verify the voters’ list by personally visiting the houses from June 23-25. They have also been directed to focus on the youth and first-time voters by getting their names added to the list.

On the other hand, the Congress has decided to take 22 failures of the Modi government to the people.

The party, under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar, will organise ‘block sammelans’ from June 5-25 in which all senior leaders will meet people from their constituencies.

Speaking to News18, UPCC spokesperson Dwijendra Tripathi said, “During these ‘block sammelans’, we will establish direct dialogue with the people and share the failures of the current regime. We will tell people about the unfulfilled promises of the government as well as discuss issues of farmer suicides, unemployment and failure in the business sector.”
