BJP paid Rs 8 cr for alliance with AGP: Cong
AGP has not put up candidates as per the seat sharing agreement with BJP.

Guwahati: The ruling Congress in Assam on Tuesday alleged that BJP had paid Rs 8 crore to Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for the alliance between the two parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Claiming that AGP had received the money from BJP for electioneering, Assam Health Minister and Congress Spokesman Himanta Biswas Sarma claimed he had "circumstantial evidence and video clippings" of the cash transaction between the AGP and the BJP and will "reveal everything and drop the atom bomb at an appropriate time."

"A sum of around Rs 8 crore was paid for the alliance for which AGP had to sacrifice the prestigious Guwahati and Mangaldoi seats to BJP," he told reporters.

The AGP has not put up candidates as per the seat sharing agreement with the BJP for the two seats.

"Let AGP admit it received the money from the BJP for electioneering," he said, adding that there was a tacit understanding between the AGP-BJP alliance and the Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF), a party of the minority community, on putting up candidates.

"This was proved when AUDF chief Badurrudin Ajmal went on record saying that the party will support AGP candidates in the election," he said.
