BJP reiterates demand for mid-term polls
Shahnawaz Hussain said that Manmohan Singh Govt has failed to perform on all fronts as is evident from the issues including CAG reports.

Indore: BJP on Saturday reiterated its demand for snap polls citing the Congress-led UPA government's "failure" in securing a majority vote on the floor of Parliament on two occasions.

"Congress-led UPA government has twice lost the majority on the floor of Parliament; once during Lokpal bill and second on the (Lok Sabha) Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj's amendment in which it could secure only 227 votes as against the required figure of 272," BJP MP and party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters in Indore.

Though the magic number is not on side of BJP either, the Congress has no right to stay in power and should face mid-term elections without waiting for completion of five years, he said.

"BJP ke paas koi majority ka magic number nahin hai parliament mein, lekin desh ke paas bjp aur nda ke alawa koi viklap nahin hai. ("Though BJP has no magic number of majority in Parliament, the nation too has the only alternative in the form of BJP and NDA"), said Hussain, who was on tour of Ujjain during the day.

"BJP to mid term ke liye tayar baithee hai (If polls are ordered, BJP is all prepared to face them), he said.

In the backdrop of issues surrounding political and military establishments, Hussain, who was civil aviation minister in the erstwhile NDA government, said the prime minister's "weakness" as a leader has come to the fore during all these developments.

"Manmohan Singh government has failed to perform on all fronts as is evident from the issues including CAG reports, challenge to election commission, government-army tussle which has created utter confusion and sensation (sic)," he said.

Hussain said the Centre must clear air in recent controversies surrounding Army chief General VK Singh.
