New Delhi: The row over a separate Gurudwara Committee for Haryana has taken a new turn. Veteran BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Kaptan Singh Solanki on Friday was appointed the Governor of Haryana in place of Jagannath Pahadia who completes his tenure on Saturday.
A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said the President has appointed Solanki as Governor of Haryana with immediate effect. Pahadia completes his tenure on Saturday, it added.
A new Haryana Governor could help the government get over the impasse over the Haryana SGPC row, paving the way for a re-look at the legality of the Haryana SGPC act.
Sources say that the government may also send a Presidential reference, since the fight between Haryana and Punjab over the control of gurudwaras is intensifying with Punjab's Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal threatening to resign.
75-year-old Solanki, a former professor, hails from Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh and was renominated to Rajya Sabha in August 2012.
