Mumbai: The Shiv Sena is maintaining its hold on Mumbai, leading on 90 seats followed by BJP on 78 seats as trends of counting of votes in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, where the saffron allies are locked in a battle, poured in.
The Congress is more or less wiped out, it's a spent force in Maharashtra's urban civic bodies.
There are no takers for Raj Thackeray's MNS even in Nasik where they had a mayor the last time.
BJP is romping home in all places, except in Mumbai and Thane. The next half an hour will reveal whether Sena crosses the half-way mark on its own.
Shiv Sena has drawn a blank in a Nagpur. That says something.
The NCP is too irrelevant, except in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad where it is still breathing.
As per trends coming in from the other city corporations, zilla parishads and panchayat samitis, the BJP is ahead of its rivals on 32 seats and Shiv Sena on 18 seats in the Nashik civic body.
- With a lead in 54 seats, BJP has headed towards its best ever performance.
- Congress struggling at 22 seats, is heading for its lowest total in the last 20 years.
- Shiv Sena is leading in 90 seats has bettered its record over 2007 polls when it won 84 seats.
- No taker for MNS brand of aggressive Marathi brand politics with the party struggling at 10 seats, less than half of 27 seats it won in 2012.
Reacting to the latest trends Congress leader Milind Deora said that the results clearly show that Mumbaikars chose potholes, flooding, malaria & water tankers over effective administration.
Conclusion one can draw from BMC election results is that Mumbaikars seem content living with potholes, flooding, malaria & water tankers— Milind Deora (@milinddeora) February 23, 2017
Congrats Shiv Sena & BJP for retaining BMC. For Mumbai's sake, earnestly hope the next 5 years are better than the last 2 decades ????????— Milind Deora (@milinddeora) February 23, 2017
