BSP to give tickets to 50 pc youth in LS polls: Mayawati
Her remarks came after Rahul Gandhi called for quota for younger faces.

Lucknow: About 50 per cent youth will get BSP tickets in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Mayawati announced on Friday.

"While other political parties remember youth and talk about their proper representation during election time and forget all about it after polls, the the Bahujan Samaj Party is the only party, which is totally committed to giving them proper representation," Mayawati said in a release.

The remarks came a day after Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi reportedly called for a system of "quota" to field thirty per cent younger faces in the parliamentary elections, at a CWC meeting.

Claiming that no other party had given as much representation to the youth as had the BSP, Mayawati said that these "young faces" would promote party policies and work to establish a constructive "Sarv Samaj" in the country.

"BSP in the real sense has been bringing all sections of society together, unlike its political adversaries," she said.

Reiterating her stand on allotting tickets to candidates with criminal antecedents, Mayawati said that her party had been against criminalisation of politics but maintained that those, who express faith in the party ideology and who are ready to mend their ways, should be given a chance to reform.

"Such people are given a chance by the BSP and in case they fail to adhere to the BSP discipline and change their style, they are shown the door," she said, referring to Auraiya MLA, Shekhar Tiwari who was sent to jail after his name came up in the PWD engineer murder case.
