New Delhi: Stung by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati ordering a CBI probe into the CD case, the BJP today hit back at her, saying the CBI should honestly probe her assets.
"The CBI should honestly probe the assets of Mayawati, which is in abundance," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters in the capital on Thursday.
He also said the CBI should not be used to fix political opponents, claiming that BJP President Rajnath Singh was not even present at the release of the campaign CD during the Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh last year and has no connection with it.
The case of communally-sensitive CD released allegedly by BJP ahead of assembly polls in the state returned to haunt Singh and seven other leaders, with Mayawati ordering a CBI probe into the matter on Wednesday.
The BJP has termed Mayawati's decision to order a CBI probe in the matter as an "attempt to frame" the party and its chief Rajnath Singh.
It said as far as the party was concerned, the "matter stands concluded" when the Election Commission accepted its contention that the CD was not authorised by it.
