New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has made it clear that it will go ahead with its decision to hold a dharna outside Union Home Ministry on Monday to protest against Delhi Police failure to check the crime graph in New Delhi.
Party national spokesman Sanjay Singh said that AAP-led Delhi government was concerned about the safety of Delhi residents and stressed upon his party's demand that Delhi Police be brought under the state government. At present, the Delhi Police is accountable to the Union Home Ministry. "We are still going ahead with our dharna against the Delhi Police. Security of women is one of the priorities for AAP," he said.
Singh backed Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti and Women and Child Minister Rakhi Birla, who were at loggerheads with the Delhi Police over law and order situation in Delhi. The demand for Delhi Police control was reiterated after Bharti had a public spat with an SHO over an alleged drug and prostitution racket in a South Delhi locality, while Birla had accused police of not taking action against in-laws of a woman who was assaulted in Sagarpur area.
He said that the party's PAC was also looking into the political reactions towards these incidents. Singh also targeted BJP leader Arun Jaitley for his blog on the recent controversy. "Arun Jaitley has supported Delhi police in his blog, Arun Jaitley instead of raising his voice against the atrocities of Delhi Police he is supporting them," he said.
On Delhi Police's decision to upgrade Kejriwal's security he said, "No question of taking security, Kejriwal has been very clear since the beginning that they will not avail any security cover."
On rebel MLA Vijay Kumar Binny, he said that the party has formed a committee which will recommend action against him. "AAP has received Vinod Kumar Binny's reply and the matter has been discussed. A committee has been formed under under Pankaj GUpta, Yogendra Yadav, Illyas Azmi, Gopal Rai and Ashish Talwar. The committee will consult legally and recommend action.
Singh also added that AAP has received phenomenal response for the Lok Sabha elections. "We have received more than 2000 forms till now. We discussed about Lok Sabha candidatures, it will take another 4-5 days to finalise the list," he said.
The Delhi Police has issued prohibitory orders against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's proposed protest outside Home Ministry on Monday. Kejriwal has threatened strike in a bid to mount pressure on the Home Ministry to suspend Delhi Police officials who refused to obey Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti's diktat to frisk Ugandan women he had accused of prostitution.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has also imposed prohibitory orders in and around Parliament House and the North and South Block in order to stop Kejriwal from holding protests. The AAP has been asked not to hold protests near these buildings as Republic Day preparations are underway. Parliament street sub-division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Anyesh Roy issued the order which will be applicable for three days starting from January 19th till 22nd.
The order says Section 144 prevents obstructing traffic, sit-in protests, demonstrations, protests and public meetings.
