New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday rubbished claims made by AAP that it is trying to destabilise its government and said Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar was held simply on the basis of proof and nothing else.
Clearing its stand, Delhi Police said, "We have followed all guidelines while making the arrest. We got a complaint from Bar Council of Delhi Head. It was found that the documents and certificates produced seemed to be forged and based on this complaint we formed teams to look into this matter."
We found from the concerned college, that BSc degree was false, we also found that the LLB degree certificate was fake. This is as per the information from the University from where the degree was said to be obtained from. We have followed all guidelines while making the arrest," police added.
Calling it a political vendetta and a bid to destabilise the Delhi government, the AAP on Tuesday afternoon protested outside Vasant Vihar police station where Tomar was taken.
Tomar, who was arrested from his office on Tuesday morning, claimed around 30-40 policemen along with an Additional Commissioner of Police came to his office and he had no other option but to go with them. "Around 30-40 policemen along with an Additional Commissioner of Police came to my office and said that they wanted to speak to me and would talk at my place. I have not been served any arrest warrant. I have not been given any details. They are not giving any details, they are harassing me. This is a political vendetta," Tomar said.
Tomar was arrested on charges of cheating, forgery and getting jobs on fake degree.
AAP spokesperson Sanjay Singh said, "Jitender Tomar's case is in the High Court then why is the arrest. Is it to put pressure? The Lieutenant Governor and the Modi government are trying to put pressure on us. Our fight is against corruption will continue."
