New Delhi: IFS officer Devyani Khobragade met Prime Minister's Office (PMO) officials on Friday to discuss on filing an appeal against her indictment in the US for Visa fraud and abusing her maid Sangeetha Richard.
While serving as Indian Deputy Consul General in New York, she made international headlines when she was arrested by US law enforcement for making false statements on a visa application for her housekeeper, whereby paying her maid $3.99 an hour, despite promising her on her visa application to pay the minimum legal wage.
Khobragade, who has an arrest warrant against her in the US, cannot be given a foreign assignment and can be held if sent to a country having an extradition treaty with US, Sources said.
Diplomatic negotiations are on to resolve the issue, sources said.
The MEA is taking it slow until US prosecutor Preet Barara demits office, officials said.
However, Khobragade refused to talk to CNN-IBN.
