Dissent in Cong rally: Jat rift comes to fore
The Congress' troubles with the Jat community surfaced in Jaipur.

New Delhi: A rally attended by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Jaipur saw more than fiery speeches. The Congress' troubles with the Jat community surfaced.

Supporters of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot raised slogans against Union Minister and Jat leader Sisram Ola.

Gehlot's supporters were upset with the Jat leader as he did not mention the CM in his address. After it won the recent state election, the Congress had been under great pressure to pick a Jat chief minister.

Its decision to nominate Gehlot instead had not gone down well with the Jat community. And if the rally was any indication, Congress' Jat troubles might affect its performance in the Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing a rally to thank Congress workers who had helped bring the party back to power in the state, Gandhi said, “When the Congress was in power in the state, we had taken up the cause of farmers and weaker sections of the society. Now, too, the Congress will try to empower weaker sections of the society, provide facilities to the farmers and employment to the youth.”
