EC To Announce Poll Dates For Maharashtra, Jharkhand Assembly Elections Today
The Maharashtra Assembly's term is set to conclude on November 26, while the Jharkhand Assembly's term will end on January 5, 2025.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections at 3.30 pm on Tuesday, October 15.

In light of several upcoming festivals, including Diwali, Chhath, and Dev Deepawali, the poll panel is likely to schedule the polling in the second week of November.

The Maharashtra Assembly’s term is set to conclude on November 26, while the Jharkhand Assembly’s term will end on January 5, 2025.

The assembly elections in Maharashtra will be conducted on 288 seats, while polling will be held on 81 seats in Jharkhand. The Election Commission will make the final announcement on the number of seats going to the polls.

BJP Brainstorms Over All Maharashtra Seats

The BJP may have fought for 164 seats in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, but on Monday, during its core committee meeting, the party deliberated on all 288 seats in the poll-bound state.

“BJP ko sampoorn Maharashtra ka khayal rakhna hai,” a source, who is deputed with key responsibility for Maharashtra, told News18. The source indicated that the BJP is taking a holistic approach, not leaving seats on its side to fate but offering data to help them win and improve the total tally of seats.

After the meeting, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, while speaking to reporters, confirmed that the party has confined its discussions to its own seats and “friends” who switched sides.

There were, however, intense discussions over 100 seats that the BJP is sure to fight and beyond. These constituencies were discussed in detail, where sitting MLAs will have to be given a ticket.

According to sources in the BJP, unlike other states, the saffron party is likely to repeat a big chunk of its sitting MLAs. They also indicated that the first list may have names of senior MLAs and sitting ministers.

JMM To Contest All 81 Seats In Jharkhand

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the JMM-led alliance will contest all 81 seats in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Speaking after a central committee meeting of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday, Soren expressed confidence in the party’s electoral preparedness and asserted that the alliance would regain power in the state.

Assembly elections are likely to be announced soon with the tenure of the Vidhan Sabha coming to an end on January 5, 2025.

“I participated in the JMM central committee meeting today along with all other workers and executive committee members. We reviewed our election preparedness and we are confident of winning the assembly elections. The JMM-led alliance will contest all the 81 seats,” Soren said after the meeting.
