Bangalore: In the election season where politicians switch sides and parties, the latest to join the bandwagon is former Congress MP from Kanakpura constituency (currently Bangalore Rural) who joined the BJP on Wednesday. Karnataka BJP chief Prahlad Joshi and other state leaders welcomed her into the party after the election management committee meeting in Bangalore.
"When there is an overwhelming support for the BJP in a democratic system, when one party falls, another party must get its democratic right to rule the country," Ramesh said.
She also slammed her former party's rule at the Centre. "The Congress has really wasted its valuable ten years to provide good and clean governance. So I think it's time for the BJP to seek their mandate of this country and I think they deserve it," she said.
The journalist-turned politician had defeated JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda by a huge margin with a Congress ticket in the 2004 general elections.
Speculation was rife that the BJP is likely to give her a ticket from Mandya to contest against actress Ramya from the Congress. Ramesh, however, denied any such developments. "There is no truth in that. I just today joined BJP and I don't have any demands," she said. But the newly-inducted BJP leader was quick to point that she will agree with what her party demands of her. "Even if they give me the toughest assignment, as a humble soldier of the party I will accept whatever it is," she said.
