Vadodara: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will be holding its national convention on Wednesday in Vadodara. Sharad Pawar, who was elected party chief for the fifth time, will formally take charge on Wednesday. Top leaders including Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar, Praful Patel and Supriya Sule will also be present at the convention.
The recent strain in ties with the Congress and the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections will be discussed on Wednesday.
Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar were among other NCP leaders who arrived in Vadodara on Tuesday tonight to participate in the fifth national convention of the party. "The party is organising this meet with an aim to increase its strength in Gujarat. It has a strength of three members in the 182-member assembly," Jayant Patel, president of NCP's Gujarat unit said.
Patel hoped that the national convention would help the NCP emerge as a major force thereby raising its current tally of three seats in the Gujarat assembly. "We want to defeat the ruling BJP, as people are seeking change and we will play a role," he said.
