New Delhi: Defeat hurts. It hurts even more when one loses a closely contested elections by just three votes and this is exactly what happened to Inderjeet of the Indian National Lok Dal.
Inderjeet lost the elections from Rai constituency in Haryana to sitting MLA Jai Tirath of the Congress by just three votes.
While Tirath got 36,703 votes, Inderjeet gave the Congress leader a run for his money coming second with 36,700 votes.
The battle for Rai constituency in Sonipat was not just limited to a Congress-INLD fight, but the BJP candidate Krishna Gahlawat too gave a tough fight as 34,523 people voted in her favour.
What makes the election results in Rai constituency more interesting is that three independent candidates managed to get 37 seats each.
INLD candidate Inderjeet's defeat is most likely to go down in the history as one of the most closely fought contests in Assembly elections.
