Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad on Monday called the “wealth redistribution” promise by Congress for the Lok Sabha elections “pathetic”. His remarks came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that if the Congress came to power, it would redistribute the wealth of people to Muslims and cited former PM Manmohan Singh’s remark that the minority community had the first claim on the country’s resources.
Using an IPL analogy to criticise the Congress’ plan, the former Indian pacer said it was like taking points from the top three teams and “redistributing” them to the bottom three so they can “make the playoffs”.

Venkatesh Prasad took to microblogging site X and slammed the Congress party saying, “One of the political party’s manifesto is to redistribute the wealth of the rich to the poor. The really poor need to be uplifted but this thought process is so pathetic. It is like saying If we take 4 points from RR and 4 from KKR and SRH and re-distribute it to the bottom 3 teams, they can make the playoffs.”
The former cricketer referred to the points table of the IPL wherein the top four teams, who accumulated the most points in the league matches, enter the playoffs of the tournament, while the rest are eliminated.
A political row erupted over PM Modi’s statements with Opposition leaders accusing the prime minister of creating “communal hatred” to “divert the attention of the public from the issue”.
Rahul Gandhi said the prime minister was “afraid of the immense support that Congress’s ‘Revolutionary Manifesto’ is receiving”.
“After the disappointment in the first phase of voting, the level of Narendra Modi’s lies has fallen so much that out of fear, he now wants to divert the attention of the public from the issues. Trends have started coming in regarding the immense support that Congress’s ‘Revolutionary Manifesto’ is receiving. The country will now vote on its issues, vote for its employment, its family and its future,” Gandhi wrote in an X post.
