Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said India should have a "youngish" vice president and supported the candidature of Shashi Tharoor for the job.
"We are a young country. How about a 'youngish' vice president even if we can't have a 'young' president," he wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Asked by a follower to define young, Omar said the candidate should be around 50-years-old. "Fiftyish. Someone who can be a roving ambassador for the India of today. I didn't have names in mind, just an idea that's it," he replied.
When another follower suggested the name of former Union minister Tharoor, Omar said "very good choice". However, the chief minister rued that the presidential race has been "muddied" as BJP threw its weight behind the choice of Samajwadi party candidate for the president.
"So the Presidential election waters have been well and truly muddied with the BJP batting for SP's choice," he tweeted.
