J&K: BJP to hold protests over Afzal resolution
J&K Assembly will debate and vote on the controversial resolution demanding clemency for Guru on September 28.

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP on Monday said it would hold statewide protests against the proposed resolution seeking clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

"Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is saying that hanging of Guru would disturb situation in Kashmir Valley, we say if it is not done it would disturb situation in entire country," state BJP chief Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters.

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will on September 28 debate and vote on the controversial resolution demanding clemency for Guru, who was sentenced to death for his involvement in the attack on Parliament in December 2001.

The resolution has been moved by Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid.

The protests would be held in all the districts of Jammu region, two districts of Ladakh region and in Srinagar district of Kashmir Valley, Manhas said while criticising the statement of Omar Abdullah that hanging of Guru would 'disturb' situation in Kashmir.

"Omar should resign over violation of the oath of post," chief spokesman of BJP Jitender Singh said.

"Guru issue has triggered a competitive politics in Kashmir Valley between NC and PDP. Both the parties are trying their best to appease separatists on the issue," Singh alleged.

Replying to another question on Centre's interlocutors, state BJP chief said, "We have rejected interlocutors. We do not give them recognition."
