Karnataka crisis: Cong adopts wait and watch policy
The JD(S) will discuss its future course of action on October 5.

New Delhi: The tug-of-war between the JD(S) and the BJP continues in Karnataka. A final decision is likely after the JD(S) Political Affairs Committee meets in Delhi on Friday. The BJP Parliamentary Board is to meet on Thursday.

JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda is likely to hold consultations with the BJP central leaders to arrive at an agreement. Before leaving for Delhi, Deve Gowda is going to address a public meeting in Bangalore on Thursday.

After BJP ministers sent in their resignation to Kumaraswamy on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said he is ready to go to the people rather than handing over power.

Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, along with a few ministers belonging to his party, met Kumaraswamy on Tuesday night and handed over the resignation of BJP ministers.

Addressing a Gandhi Jayanti function on Tuesday, Kumaraswamy had rejected BJP's deadline for the transfer of power as per an agreement that the two parties had reached 20 months ago.

Meanwhile, The Congress has adopted a ‘wait and watch’ mode in Karnataka despite reports expressing possibility of it extending outside support to the JD(S) to retain power if it severed links with the BJP.

"We are watching the situation closely," AICC general secretary Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday said.

The reports also had it that a decision on the issue would be taken after Sonia Gandhi's return from her foreign tour.

Congress had so far been giving signals that it does not want to get embroiled in the power tussle in Karnataka as such a move would be electorally counter productive.
