New Delhi: Amidst protest by Congress-led opposition seeking withdrawal of a resolution passed by the house against a magistrate's order, Kerala assembly on Thursday adjourned sine die after rushing through day's business.
United Democratic Front (UDF) stalled the proceedings of the House for the second successive day over Wednesday's resolution, which expressed reservation over a magistrate's action of issuing an arrest warrant against Power Minister A K Balan and M Chandran, MLA, when the house was in session.
Demanding that government withdraw the resolution, Opposition members boycotted the question hour holding that the resolution amounted to "confrontation with judiciary and disrespect to courts".
They moved to well raising slogans and tore into pieces the copy of the resolution, which was circulated in the house.
When the protest continued, Speaker K Radhakrishnan moved to other businesses and the house passed three bills including the Kerala Dairy Farmer's Welfare Fund and Kerala Panchayat Raj (Amendment) 2007.
Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan rejected the UDF demand and said it was a timely resolution passed to uphold the dignity of the house.
The magistrate also did not inform the Speaker about the arrest warrant issued against two members as mandated by the constitution, he pointed out.
Opposition leader Oommen Chandy wanted the government to correct its "mistake" by withdrawing the resolution.
He also questioned the presence of policemen in press gallery of the assembly and said it violated all norms.
