New Delhi: A Delhi court is likely to announce its verdict on the Delhi Police's plea seeking closure of a kidnapping case against former Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh. Singh is accused of kidnapping a key witness in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam.
The crime branch of Delhi Police said the complaint by Hashmat Ali, a key prosecution witness in the cash-for-vote scam, seeking registration of criminal case against Singh and two others, was "without merit" and deserved to be dismissed.
Ali had sought registration of an FIR against Amar Singh, his secretary Tarun and aide Ramesh under various provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act relating to kidnapping, criminal intimidation, illegal confinement and robbery.
Amar Singh was granted bail in the 2008 cash-for-vote case earlier in October.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court granted bail to all the accused in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam.
Former BJP MPs Fagan Singh Kulaste, Mahavir Singh Bhagora, political activist Suhail Hindustani, former aide of MP Amar Singh Sanjeev Saxena and Sudheendra Kulkarni were granted bail on Wednesday.
BJP MP Ashok Argal was granted anticipatory bail in the scam and will participate in the investigation as and when called for.
Opposition MPs were allegedly bribed ahead of July 22, 2008 trust vote and three BJP MPs brandished bribe money in Lok Sabha to expose UPA.
