New Delhi: On the mat over its anti-corruption agenda after induction of tainted former Uttar Pradesh minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday brushed off the controversy, saying "it was a closed chapter" with the membership being suspended.
"The party has suspended Kushwaha's membership. For us, it is a closed chapter," BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.
Kushwaha's induction, aimed at attracting the other backward class (OBC) voters in the poll-bound state, had divided the party ranks and even prompted strong reactions from ally Janata Dal-United.
Downplaying party leader Uma Bharati's displeasure over the Kushwaha episode and reports that she has refused to campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Naqvi termed her a "star campaigner" who will be deployed for the purpose once the campaign schedule of leaders was finalised.
