New Delhi: Speaker Meira Kumar feels that Lok Sabha sittings should be increased to 100 days in a year so that various problem being faced by people in the country can be debated and discussed.

She also favoured building consensus to change the timing of the Question Hour in Lok Sabha as was done in Rajya Sabha.

"Lok Sabha proceedings should be increased from the current 70 days to 100 days. There is a need for sufficient time for having a debate on multitude of problems facing a vast country like India," she said in an interview to Doordarshan News on the occasion of completion of two years in office.

"I would want a consensus on the issue," she said replying to a question on shifting the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha,

"It should either run in an orderly manner, if not the timing should be changed for ensuring a smooth conduct of the Parliamentary proceedings, but for this we need a consensus", she said.

In March, Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha was shifted to 2 pm instead of 11 am by Chairman Hamid Ansari in view of frequent disruptions.

Expressing concern over increasing influence of money and muscle power in politics, the Speaker said, "this must be stopped and whoever enters the Lok Sabha should completely dedicate themselves for the nation selflessly".

Asked about her experience in the last two years, Kumar said, "I had a variety of experiences. So much of experience in two years I have never got in my life. I learnt a lot to run a House is big responsibility as well as a big challenge".
