Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s close aide, Monu Kalyane, has been shot dead in Indore.

According to sources, around 2 to 3 am, two motorcycle-borne assailants gunned down BJP youth leader Monu Kalyane near the Chiman Bagh crossroad while he was putting up posters for a BJP rally.

Indore ACP Vinod Dixit said, “The situation is still tense near the Chiman Bagh crossroad where BJP leader Monu Kalyane was shot in the chest by two assailants. We have deployed forces to keep the situation under control.”

The accused, Arjun and Piyush, allegedly approached Monu asking for someone’s phone number while he was overseeing last-minute preparations for a rally that was scheduled for 5 pm.

As Monu looked at his phone to find the number, the attackers opened fire, killing the youth leader on the spot. Police found two shell casings at the scene. Bystanders attempted to catch the assailants, but they fired into the air and escaped.

The youth leader’s supporters later tracked down the accused’s houses in the neighbouring MG Road area and set them on fire. They also vandalised vehicles parked nearby.

Meanwhile, minister Vijayvargiya expressed grief and instructed police to take strict action against the accused.
