West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to skip a meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on land bill on July 15.
According to Trinamool Congress sources, the party chief has conveyed this to the Narendra Modi government in a letter, saying her government would continue to oppose the Land Acquisition Bill "at all cost".
"Our views on land bill have been consistent and very much in public domain, and we are reiterating the same that we are opposed to the bill at all cost," the West Bengal government has told the Centre.
Sticking to her stand against forcible acquisition of land, Banerjee had on Friday said that her party would not compromise on the issue of land bill.
"We will not compromise on the issue of land bill, forcible acquisition of land and granting of SEZ status. It was our electoral commitment. We cannot go back on it," Banerjee had told a vernacular news channel.
The chief minister, while talking about granting of SEZ status to Infosys, said her government would provide all kinds of facilities but not SEZ status.
