Moscow: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding several matters, but there was no breakthrough on the Kundankulam nuclear project.
Singh, who is in Moscow to attend the 14th India-Russia Annual Summit, stressed the Kudankulam nuclear plant project was an important symbol of Indo-Russia strategic partnership and generation from unit-I of the plant would begin shortly while work on unit-II would be completed by 2014.
Singh's dissapointment was also evident as he urged Indian officials to break the deadlock on nuclear liability bill that has threatened to stall Kudankulam project soon.
Committing to push cooperation in the nuclear field, Putin too directed officials to resolve at the earliest outstanding issues on liability that have
stalled work on Unit-III and IV of the Kudankulam project.
It is expected to be the Prime Minister's last visit to Russia before the Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the agreement on cooperation in the construction of additional nuclear power plant units at Kudankulam site as well as in the construction of Russian-designed nuclear power plants at new
sites in India as concluded on December 5, 2008.
The nuclear deal could have sent an important message globally that India does sign agreements and also takes them to a logical end.
