Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah for calling Azamgarh a terrorist base. "According to the yardstick of Amit Shah, I would say the entire Gujarat state is a base for terrorists. The biggest terrorist in Azamgarh is BJP candidate Ramakant Yadav. I had thrown him out of the BSP. His terror is all over Azamgarh but the BJP finds nothing wrong in him," Mayawati said.
She demanded a ban on Amit Shah's entry in the state. "I appeal to the Election Commission (EC) to put a ban on Amit Shah's entry into Poorvanchal area of Uttar Pradesh (UP)," she said.
She also sought a ban on Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Azmi in the state. Azmi, a SP leader from Azamgarh, had admitted that he knew an Indian Mujahideen operative in the area but did not have any links with the terror organisation. "Faizan Ahmed is from Azamgarh and so am I. I do not deny the fact that I know him. But it is wrong to say that I have links with the Indian Mujahideen for this reason. I assure you I will never have any links with those who want to harm this country," Azmi had said.
"I appeal to the EC to take suitable action aganist Abu Azmi on his statement. The EC should ban the entry of both Amit Shah and SP leader Abu Azmi in UP. The UP Police should be kept away from polling booths and central forces must be brought in," she said.
