Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday urged the civil society, religious groups and the media to help restore peace in the Kashmir Valley.

"I am pained by the killings that occurred here recently. I appeal to the eminent religious leaders and the civil society members to cooperate and help in restoring peace in Kashmir," Mehbooba Mufti told Etv Urdu.

"We must all come together in the time of distress to take control of the situation," she added.

After security forces killed over 30 people in the aftermath of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's killing, the Peoples Democratic Party chief also said that inquiry would be done in cases were security forces "have used extra force causing deaths".

"I will ensure that a fair enquiry is done," she added.
