New Delhi: Outgoing Speaker Meira Kumar has terminated the services of Lok Sabha TV Chief Executive Rajiv Mishra. A notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat dated May 30 said, "the Speaker has limited the tenure of Shri Rajiv Mishra as Chief Executive of LSTV till May 31, 2014." No reason for the removal of Lok Sabha TV CEO has been cited in the order.
Mishra, however, cried foul over the decision which came just days ahead of Meira Kumar's exit. Calling the move unethical, he said that he was not given prior notice and he came to know about his exit after his colleagues informed him about the notification.
Mishra has alleged that he has been removed because during the Lok Sabha elections, the channel had reported that Kumar was trailing in her constituency.
"This is unethical. Entire Loksabha TV staff is agitated with the way this order has been posted on the Lok Sabha intranet last late night. This is completely wrong as a journalist and as CEO of a channel if reports are coming that Madam is loosing, how can I stop the news. That too when we confirmed it with the Election Commission, then what is wrong in it. Order was not even served to me, it was uploaded in the website and I have been given only 12 hrs to leave my office. What kind of era is this," he questioned.
Meanwhile, sources in the Lok Sabha secretariat said that Mishra's tenure ended on December 2013 and he was given an extension along with some staff of Meira Kumar till May 31 2014. Kumar wanted to leave it to the new Speaker to decide on the new staff, hence this decision was conveyed.
