The BJP, having won 240 seats, crossed the 272 majority mark with the support of its several allies, including the Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United). With support from BJP’s key allies N Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) in Bihar and other alliance partners, the NDA crossed the halfway mark, securing 293 seats. As the NDA is set for a third term, the INDIA alliance, led by Congress, will be looking to court the BJP’s partners TDP and JD(U).
Members of the INDIA bloc will convene a meeting to deliberate on strategies for the far-fetched possibility of forming a government at the centre, despite currently being way short of the required numbers. Several leaders of the top political parties, including NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut will attend the INDIA bloc meeting in the national capital.
‘Historic Third Term’
Speaking from @BJP4India HQ. https://t.co/x2neIsArbi— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) June 4, 2024
After the results were declared on Tuesday, PM Modi pledged to work with all states, regardless of the party in power, to build a developed India. In his first speech after the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, Modi laid out his vision for the third term saying it would be a tenure of big decisions and key emphasis would be on uprooting corruption.
It is the first time that 73-year-old Modi will be dependent on allies to be in the government since he came into politics. “The fight against corruption is becoming tougher by the day. Corruption is being shamelessly glorified for political interest. In our third term, NDA will focus a lot on rooting out corruption of all kinds,” Modi said.
